Fire on the Semi-Sub Transocean Winner

Submitted by on December 26, 2009 – 04:49No Comment

A fire broke out on the platform “Transocean Winner” in the North Sea on Christmas Day. The crew were sent to the lifeboats, but were not evacuated, and no one was injured in the fire.

The fire started in an electric cable box, and was quickly brought under control.

Helicopters on nearby platforms were alerted, but were not needed.

“Transocean Winner” is located 100 nautical miles west of Stavanger.

Spokesman for the operator Lundin, Andreas Tinglum says it too early to say when normal operations on the platform will resume.

The TRANSOCEAN WINNER is a GVA-4000 design semi-submersible drilling unit capable of operating in harsh environments and water depths up to 1,500 feet
